Platelet-rich plasma, commonly referred to as PRP, is a treatment that uses a sample of the patient’s blood to create a solution primarily containing plasma and platelets. Platelets, which are cells that are important to the body’s natural healing process, are separated from the rest of the components in blood to increase its concentration up to 5x the base concentration. The platelet-rich plasma is then transported to the target area via an injection to increase the amount of growth factors, boost healing, and decrease pain.
